Dialysis Equipment Solution – Capacity-Building at the Maroua Hemodialysis Centre
Six new treatment stations, water treatment units and trained teams, strengthening renal care in Cameroon's Far North

The Challenge
The Maroua Regional Hemodialysis Centre serves patients across the Far North Region, one of Cameroon’s most remote and underserved areas. For people living with chronic kidney failure here, access to reliable dialysis is a matter of survival, yet capacity was limited and the quality of the water used for treatment, a critical safety factor in dialysis, needed to be secured.
Expanding a dialysis centre is never only a question of machines. Additional treatment stations mean little without safe water to run them and without a nursing team trained and confident enough to operate the expanded service. The challenge in Maroua was therefore twofold: increase capacity, and build the local capability to sustain it.

The Solution
Gima-Bambot MedTech Ltd. and the B. Braun Group joined forces to strengthen the centre on both fronts, equipment and people.
The solution combined:
- 6 new dialysis treatment stations, expanding the centre’s capacity to treat more patients.
- A robust new water treatment unit, ensuring the better water quality that is essential to safe hemodialysis.
- Hands-on capacity building, with Gima-Bambot MedTech Ltd. staff training the centre’s nurses to operate the expanded service safely and confidently, through our training and capacity building programmes.
Delivered as a contribution to the Far North’s renal care, the project reflected a shared commitment, with the B. Braun Group and the Ministry of Public Health, to promoting excellence in healthcare in Cameroon. Crucially, by pairing new hemodialysis equipment with training, the solution was built to last, not simply to be installed.
The Implementation
The project moved from delivery to fully operational, trained care in a clear sequence:
- Installation of 6 new treatment stations, expanding the centre’s treatment capacity.
- Installation of a robust water treatment unit, securing the water quality on which safe dialysis depends, supported by our biomedical engineering expertise.
- Hands-on nurse training. Gima-Bambot MedTech Ltd. staff trained the centre’s nursing team to operate and care for the new equipment, so the expanded service could run reliably from day one.
The Results
The project delivered a measurable strengthening of the Maroua centre:
- 6 new dialysis treatment stations in service, expanding capacity.
- A robust new water treatment unit, delivering the better water quality essential for patient safety.
- A trained nursing team, able to operate the expanded service confidently.
- More patients able to benefit from appropriate and effective care.
- Significantly improved treatment in the Far North Region.
